Everyone:

  • Softball is just a game, so have good sportsmanship if you win or lose!
  • EVERY position is important!
  • Remember not every player can be on the field at once!
  • Drink lots of water!

Throwing the Ball:

  • When throwing the ball, think to yourself: 'C' me throw, and make a 'C' with your arm!
  • When you throw, think as if you’re scooping the ball out of your glove with an ice-cream scoop, and then you flinging the ball out.
  • Practice timing the throw right, if you let go of the ball too late or too soon, it won’t go as far.

Catching the Ball:

  • Remember your glove is there to protect you- don't be afraid of the ball.
  • When catching grounders, stay in front of them and try to stop them no matter what!
  • When catching pop-flies, stay in front of them and say: "I got it!" so your teammates know to back you up.
  • When a teammate near you is catching a ball, back them up!

Batting:

  • When batting, it’s important to hit the ball, so think of it as something you really hate and swing!
  • Try to find the pitcher's 'style' of pitching, and be ready!
  • Also, try to find the umpire’s ‘style’, so you know what will be a ball or a strike.
  • Try to read the letters of the ball as it goes by (FOCUS!)
  • DO NOT SWING AT SOMETHING YOU CAN'T HIT!

Pitchers:

  • When pitching, pretend you’re in a bubble and can't hear anything, that way you can stay focused!
  • On some occasions, it’s ok to let the batter hit the ball; the fielders are there for a reason!
  • Don’t put too much pressure on yourself!
  • Be ready to cover home plate if necessary!
  • Especially when it comes to pitching- PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!

Catchers:

  • When catching, stay alert and try stop the ball no matter what!
  • Remember when you need to cover home plate!
  • Make sure you are quick to receive a ball that has passed you!
  • Drinking plenty of water it very essential; wearing all that gear is important, but it must make things really hot!

Infeilders:

  • Stay ready when in the infield. You've got to be ready to catch or throw the ball, so be aware of your surroundings!
  • Make sure you know your plays!
  • Back eachother up!
  • Make sure you know when to cover the bags and when to be a cut-off!

Outfeilders:

  • In the out field, look alive! You need to get the ball before the other team scores!
  • Make sure your teammates know when you are retreiving the ball, so that they can back you up!
  • Back up the infielders!
  • Back up the other outfielders!
  • Look for the cut-off when you receive the ball!
